Minority Women’s Health Lesson Plan
Objective
- Address various health issues for different groups of minority women.
Materials
- Latina Women Information
- Asian Women Information
- African American Women Information
- Women’s Health Vocab Sheet
In Preparation for this Lesson:
Print off the worksheets that are appropriate for your student. For example if she is a latina
student, print of the Latina Women Information sheet for her. Ask your student to come prepared
with questions about different female health issues. Many of these questions can be addressed by
using the Women’s Health Vocab Sheet to explain what different concerns are. Lastly, you need
to plan your lesson so you’ll have access to a computer and the internet so you can review health
topics with your student.
Activity (for M-level)
- Review the Information Sheet that is appropriate for your student’s ethnicity. Read through the information, and go over any vocabulary that your student has any questions about.
- Now move to the computer, and look up this website: http://www.womenshealth.gov/topics.cfm. Once there, have your student read through the health topics, and have them click on the ones that are interesting to them. Help them navigate through the information, and find answers to any questions they may have.
- Use the Women’s Health Vocab Sheet as a reference regarding any vocab that your student doesn’t understand. There are also links on the website to the same vocab explanations.
Activity (for E-level)
Use these alterations to adjust the lesson for a student with more elementary literacy skills.
- Review the Information Sheet that is appropriate for your student’s ethnicity. Take turns reading through the information, and go over the vocabulary words that are highlighted and defined below.
