Reading Labels and Measuring

Reading Labels and Measuring Lesson Plan

Objectives:

Help students master the necessary skills to successfully read labels and use/properly measure prescription and non-prescription medicine.

In preparation for this lesson:

Materials

Activity (for M-level)

  1. Start by reviewing your selected sections of Chapter 3 Medicines. Help your student read through the sections, and answer any questions they may have. Be sure to help your student read carefully, reviewing any new words and ensuring that they understand the content of the passage.
  2. Help your student fill out the Medication Tracking Card. Encourage them to keep it in a safe place, somewhere that can accessed easily in the event of an emergency.
  3. With whatever time you have left, feel free to review the Spelling or Copy Phrase activities, according to your students needs.

Activity (for E-level)

To make the lesson simpler for students with lower literacy, make the following adjustments:

  1. Start by reviewing your selected sections of Chapter 3 Medicines. Take turns reading through the sections with your student. Answer any questions they may have, and review any new vocabulary thoroughly.
  2. Help your student fill out the Medication Tracking Card. Encourage them to keep it in a safe place, somewhere that can accessed easily in the event of an emergency.
  3. Review the Beginner Phonics. Follow that with the Copy Phrase Worksheet if you have time.

Activity (for D-level)

To make the lesson better for students with higher literacy, make the following adjustments:

  1. Start by reviewing your selected sections of Chapter 3 Medicines. Have your student read through the sections, pausing to answer any questions they may have.
  2. Help your student fill out the Medication Tracking Card. Encourage them to keep it in a safe place, somewhere that can accessed easily in the event of an emergency.
